Item #12 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF MARCH 1, 2005 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief <br />SUBJECT: Approve Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee <br />Appointment to the Positions of Fire Captain and Fire Engineer <br />DATE: February 15, 2005 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The existing Fire Captain and Fire Engineer eligibility lists have expired and the Fire Department is <br />requesting approval to establish a new list for each position. The salary range for Fire Captain is <br />$5,412.00 to $6,579.00 and the salary range for Fire Engineer is $4,531.00 to $5,507.00 per <br />month. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The Fire Department does not currently have vacant positions; however, a Fire Captain has <br />notified the department that he will be retiring in June or July. The testing process for Captain <br />may result in a vacant Fire Engineer position; therefore, recruitment for Engineer is also <br />requested. <br />Recruitment for said positions will be conducted and eligibility lists established upon Council <br />approval. The candidate(s) chosen will meet the education and experience requirements as <br />specified in the job descriptions. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Funds for the positions have been budgeted in the 2004-2005 Fiscal Year from Account Number <br />100-6090-6091-1010 (Salaries) and 100-6090-6091-1100 (Salary Related Benefits). <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST <br />None <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve the request for recruitment and ratification of <br />employee appointment to the full-time position of Fire Captain and if necessary, Fire Engineer. <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY <br />city Attorney� IJ Y Finance Director: <br />City Manager: OTHER: 1 -' <br />
