Item #9
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF MAY 3,2005
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: AMER JAHKER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER (!)
SUBJECT: ADOPT RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION #2119 TO INCLUDE
ADDITIONAL THROUGH STREETS AND STOP INTERSECTIONS,
LITTON AVENUEAPPROACHING LITTON AVENUE FROM THE
EAST AND WEST.
DATE: APRIL 25, 2005
BACKGROUND:
The State of California Vehicle Code allows the installation of traffic control devices, if adopted by
a City ordinance or a resolution. Section 21 of City of Colton Resolution # 2119 lists through
streets and stop intersections within the City of Colton.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSIQN:
At the intersection of Litton Avenue and Bostick Avenue, a condition exists that limits the visibility
thereby creating an unsafe condition for motorists. The location has been reviewed by the City of
Colton Traffic Safety Committee on February 9, 2005 and had a recommendation of denial due to
the street improvement project at the intersection. Recent Traffic Counts and accident reports for
the last 2 years were also studied as part of the review. (See attached Exhibit A)
The Street Improvement project at the intersection of Bostick Avenue and Litton Avenue was
anticipated to start in July of 2005. A delay in the project was encountered due problems in
acquisition of the southeast comer of the intersection and relocation of existing utilities on the south
portion of the intersection. This will delay the project an additional 6 months to a year.
Staff recommends approval of the installation of the traffic control devices on Litton Avenue from
the east and west to resolve the visibility problems that currently exists.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
This action will require the installation of two stop signs and the two advance warning signs. The
material cost for those installations will cost approximately $600.00; those funds are available
within account number 457-6625-6700-3890.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
