ITEM #21
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF NOVEMBER 1, 2005
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: Amer Jakher, P.E., City Engineer
SUBJECT: APPROVE AMENDING THE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
(CIP) FOR FISCAL YEAR 2005/2006 TO INCLUDE THE FIRE.
STATION NO. 1 REMODEL PROJECT AND INCREASING THE CIP
BUDGET IN THE AMOUNT OF $60,000.
DATE: October 6, 2005
BACKGROUND:
Fire Station No. 1 was built in 1937, since then City has grown considerably and has a larger Fire
Department. The building as designed does not properly accommodate current staff and
equipment. The existing structure appears to be in good shape and can be remodeled
successfully to accommodate the current Fire Department's needs.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Fire Station No.1 is in need of various improvements such as: upgrades to its electrical, system,
upgrades to its HVAC System, remodel of its living quarters, redesign to increase flour space to
better accommodate the Department's fire equipment, and an expansion of the square footage as
it was never intended to house the Fire Department's administrative offices. The scope of work for
this project is primarily design and exploration of available options for improvements of the facility.
All efforts will be made to preserve the historical aspects of this building.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
This project does not impact the General Fund. The funding is available to begin the design, and
some of the improvements correspondent to the Fire Station No. 1 Remodel Project for', $60,000.
This funding is available in Fire's New Facility Fee Fund however no projects were budgeted to be
expensed from this fund during budget adoption. Staff requests Council approval to set up a
budget of $60,000 in the CIP fund to be funded by Fire New Facility Fee fund and the associated
cash transfers.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Exempt pursuant to Section 15301 of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
CONFLICT OF INTEREST:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends amending the Capital Improvement Program for fiscal year 2005/2006 to
include the Fire Station No. 1, and increasing the CIP budget in the amount of $60,000 in the
accounts listed in the attached resolution.
7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb
