l <br />2 <br />3 <br />4 <br />5 <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 <br />11 <br />12 <br />13 <br />14 <br />15' <br />16 <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 <br />28 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 3667 <br />RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING <br />SENATE BILL 32 AND ASSEMBLY BILL 18, RE- <br />IMPOSING PRICE MARKING REQUIREMENT ON CON- <br />SUMER PRODUCT PACKAGES. <br />EAS, Consumers of California who shop in stores using the automated check - <br />stand and the Universal Product Code are protected from computer <br />error by the requirement that the product packages also be marked in <br />readable Arabic numerals, and <br />WHEREAS, this protection under current law will end on April 1, 1977, and <br />'WHEREAS, studies have shown that consumers need price information for intelli- <br />gent comparisons when shopping, most especially those who do not have <br />full command of the English language, and <br />WHEREAS, Senate Bill 32 (Roberti) and Assembly Bill 18 (Rosenthal) will <br />reimpose the price marking requirement as of January 1, 1978 thus <br />protecting all citizens in this area who shop in supermarkets, <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Colton <br />considers support of SB 32 and AB 18 to be public policy, and <br />IBE,IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this indication of our support be forwarded to the <br />Chairmen of the Assembly Finance, Insurance and Commerce Commitee, the Senate <br />Business and Professions Committee and all state legislators of this area. <br />PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this 1st day of February, 1977. <br />!_ <br />AB BELTRAN <br />Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />HELEN A.
