CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT For Council Meeting of June 21, 1988 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council �r FROM: Rich Holmer, Human Services Director, APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF COLTON SUBJECT:_ AND THE COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO FOR THE Date: 6/13/88 HUMAM SERVICES DEPARTMENT TO OPERATE A SUMMER YOUTH; EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAM (SYETP) Each year the County of San Bernardino Department of Job Training and Employment Resources through Title II-B of the Job Training Partnership Act (DTPA) of 1982 contracts with a variety of public, and non-profit organizations to operate Summer Youth Employment and Training Programs (SYETP). The programs primary objective is to provide work experience for economically dis- advantaged youth. The City of Colton's Human Services Department submitted a proposal to the County to operate a SYETP program for Colton area youth during the 1988 contract year. The County selected the City as a program operator and allocated $85,000 to fund this service. The City of Colton, through this allocation, will offera comprehensive Summer Youth Employment and Training Program (SYETP) for '75 economically disadvantaged Colton area youth. The program plans to serve both in-school and out-of-school youth from the ages of 14 to 21. The program will include assessment, work experience, remediation, and other vocational activities to prepare this communities young people for the world of work. The City Attorney has reviewed and approved the contract as to content. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the Colton-City Council enter into an agreement between the City and the County of San Bernardino for the purpose of operating a Summer Youth Employment and Training Program (SYETP) and authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute said agreement.
