CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of August 21, 1990
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: John C. Hutton, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: Approval of Emergency Resolution for the Date: August' 13, 1990
Construction of a Water Tank at Well #22
BACKGROUND:
Well #22 is located in Dauer Park and serves the Cooley Ranch area. The well has
continually experienced air problems. Last year the well was lowered in an attempt
to alleviate the problem, however, more air was found at the lower depth. The
residents and businesses in the area are being effected by the excess of air in their
lines.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
Staff has met with JF Davidson to discuss alternatives to eliminate the air problem.
One alternative is not to use the well until the new reservoir is built in the Reche
Canyon area and then have the well pump directly into the reservoir, however, the
actual construction of the reservoir is not scheduled until late 1991 and the well
is needed now in order to meet the City's water demands. The other alternative is
to construct a water tank at the well site and have the well pump directly into the
tank, removing the air before entering the distribution system.
San Luis Tank and Piping has quoted the City $64,939 for a 25'x16' tank, coated and
graveled at the bottom. The tank can be in operation in 3 weeks.
ALTERNATIVES:
Wait until the future 3 million gallon tank is constructed, scheduled for late summer
of 1991.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Sufficient funds exist in the Collins Reservoir account #21-9927-89 for this project.
Attachments:
Page 1 of—_._ 1 L.L RECORDS Item No.—
FILE NO. -_! `'-'_.............C/ d-
