CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of November b, 1990 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: John C. Hutton, Director of Public Works /r'+ <br />SUBJECT: Urban Forestry Grant Award Date: October 30, 1990 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On June 5, 1990 Council authorized staff to apply for grant funds from the Department <br />of Forestry and Fire Protection. This program makes funds available for the planting <br />of trees in public ways where they do not exist or where trees have been removed <br />due to death or disease. <br />The program provides for not only a better aesthetic appearance for our community, <br />but also an increase in environmental quality for the future. <br />STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: <br />Many of our trees are lost due to their age, disease, smog or removal during <br />development. Trees provide for a better environment and quality of life for everyone. <br />ALTERNATIVES: <br />None <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />No financial impact to the City, the State has awarded a grant in the amount of <br />$40,000 to the City for participating in the program and the California Conservation <br />Corps will assist us in the planting of the trees in our community. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />With the planting of more trees throughout the community our environmental quality <br />is improved. <br />RECC1y1MENDATION: (None) <br />Staff is pleased to announce that the City has been awarded an Urban Forestry Grant <br />in the amount of $40,000 for the planting of trees in our community. <br />JCH/ 1 i <br />CITY MANAGER'S CONCURRENCE• <br />Attachments: 2 <br />Page 1 of <br />ORIGINAL <br />_" ei:8a61�5 <br />pItem No. :1 <br />
