CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of October 1, 1991 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: Gordon Johnson, Personnel Director <br />SUBJECT: AUTHORITY - WORKERS' COMPENSATION Date: Sept. 9, 1991 <br />The Personnel Department has no settlement authority for workers' compensation <br />claims. The submission of claims, on a regular basis, to the City Council is <br />time-consuming and unnecessary, due to the state mandated "Disability Rating Bureau". <br />The rating bureau computes the fees for all non -litigated cases from the disability <br />rating schedule. All litigated settlements are recommended by the City's defense <br />attorneys. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />A survey was conducted of the surrounding cities with the following results: <br />CITY SETTLEMENT AMOUNTS AUTHORITY <br />Fontana $10,000 Risk Management Division <br />$10,000 - $25,000 City Manager <br />$25,000 + City Council <br />Loma Linda No Limit City Manager <br />Ontario No Limit Risk Management Division <br />Redlands $5,000 City Manager <br />Rialto 0 - $2,999 Risk Management Division <br />$3,000 - $10,000 City Manager <br />over $10,000 City Council <br />San Bernardino No Limit Risk Management Division <br />FISCAL IMPACT: None. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council give authority to the City Manager to approve <br />workers' compensation settlements for amounts up to $10,000. <br />Attachments: City !Anager <br />Page 1 of Item No. ° <br />ICE NO. � 3. 1 a------- 9 <br />
