CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT For Council Meeting of November 17, 1992 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: RICHARD E. ACEVEDO, Finance Directo SUBJECT: Award of Bid for Various Transformers to Date: November 10, 1992 General Electric Supply Co. in the Amount of $3,974.25 and Kuhlman Electric in the Amount of $11,450-60 BACKGROUND Utility transformers are ordered into Electric Stores inventory for use on an as required basis. The quantity and sizes are projected by the City's Electrical Engineer as plans are submitted for new development and replacement transformers are needed. On October 8, 1992, General Services advertised for sealed bids for some of these requirements. Bid opening was held at 2:30 p.m., November 4, 1992, in the General Services office. DISCUSSION Five bids were received and evaluated. A Bid Analysis is attached showing price and delivery quoted by each vendor. The recommended vendor's price is underlined for each transformer. The total of bid award is listed at the bottom for each vendor. Also attached, is a Transformer Load Loss Evaluation, which was prepared on the computer. This evaluation shows the true cost of the transformer over its useful lifetime, using a combination of load calculations supplied by the transformer manufacturer and unit prices quoted by the vendor. The lowest evaluated cost for each transformer is under- lined. The lowest evaluated cost was submitted by Young & Co. They are now representing Howard Transformers. Howard Transformers is not an approved transformer manufacturer with the Electric Department, as they have had quality problems with them in the past. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends bid award to General Electric Supply Co. in the amount of $3,974.25 and Kuhlman Electric in the Amount of $11,450.60. Report Prepared by: Mary J.
