Drews, Electric Utility Director eDate: 5/25/94 <br />SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO RELEASE PURCHASE ORDER TO BLACK & <br />VEATCH, CONSULTANT, FOR CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT <br />SERVICES FOR THE "WEST" SUBSTATION, TRANSMISSION <br />LINE, AND DISTRIBUTION LINE <br />STATEMENT OF THIS; PROBLEM <br />The Department is in the process of designing a new substation, transmission line, and distribution <br />line to provide electrical service to the County Medical Center. The consulting, engineering, and <br />construction management contract had been approved by the City Council on May 18, 1993. <br />Construction of the transmission and distribution facilities will start in the third quarter of 1994. <br />Due to the City's spending freeze, we cannot issue this purchase order, even though the amount has <br />already been budgeted and approved by the City Council for the current fiscal year. This may <br />impact the project's sequence of events and impair our ability to provide timely service to the <br />medical center. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />None. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />The fund, total $215,000 estimated for the construction management services, is available in the <br />current budget year.
