LA CADENA DRIVE BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT BACKGROUND: The S. La Cadena Drive Beautification project consists of 3 Phases. Phase 1 is the portion from I-10 Freeway to South of the Congress Street Railroad Crossing. The project involved the installation of new curbs, sidewalks, parkway landscaping, irrigation and street paving at an estimated cost of $696,535.77. With the total for all three phases being 1.6 million. As a clarification to City Council, the construction work, located on the north easterly corner of the intersection of South La Cadena Drive and "O" Street is not part of the S. La Cadena Drive Beautification Project. This street repair work is currently being done by City Crews, which should be completed in 3 to 4 weeks. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Phase 1 of S. La Cadena Drive received two funding sources for its construction of these improvements: 1) Community Development Block Grant funds in the amount of $426,951.01 were approved and obligated as a source and the remainder 2) San Bernardino County City Fees (a county landfill mitigation fund) was approved by an M.O.U. and obligated an amount of $778,585.65 for the Phase 1 Construction. These two sources totalling $1,205,536.66 covered the Phase 1 Construction and Engineering Contract amount and expenses. STAFF RECOMMENDS: If Council concurs staff would recommend fin 1 acceptance of Phase 1 in an amount of $938,867.01 and finalizing a Noti of Completion.
