CITY OF COLTON .: NP -0- moo&
di`Sw4
AGENDA REPORT
t
For Council Meeting of 11/1/94
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: October 27, 1994
FROM: JOHN HUTTON
if -1 -
Public Works Director
SUBJECT: REQUEST AUTHORIZATION TO PROCEED TO BID THE SOUTH LA CADENA
BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT, PHASES II AND III
BACKGROUND:
The South La Cadena Beautification Project consists of three phases. The
Final Phases II and III is the portion of work from Congress Street Railroad
Crossing to the Santa Ana River and from La Loma Avenue to the I-215 Freeway.
The scope of work consists of the renovation, reconstruction and the
installation of Public offsite improvements, including landscaping and
irrigation within the parkways.
Phases II and III has funding approval by the States Transportation Funding
Program and has also received Council approval as one of the locally funded
Capital Improvement Projects. The City has been officially notified as to
Cal Trans approval to advertise the South La Cadena Project - Phases II and
III, which they identify as Project 08-SBd-COL STPL 5065 ( 004 ) South La Cadena
Avenue.
The contract duration of this project would be 80 working days and the
Engineer's construction estimate is'$950,000. The proposed Bid opening date,
upon City Council approval would be set for Thursday, December 15, 1994 at
2:00 p.m.
DISCUSSION:
At the suggestion of Councilman Sandoval and if the City Council concurs,
staff could include as augmented work to this project, the installation of
additional street lighting. However not as part of the Transportation
Funding Source (which this additional work would not qualify under), but
rather as being funded by local City resources in addition to the Project.
Staff proposes as a possible source of funding to have the installation of
the street lights expensed through the Electric Utility Department Capital
Improvement Outlay Funds.
