Clarke, Acting Electric Utility Director DATE: 08/18/94 <br />SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR CONSTRUCTION <br />OF THE STEEL CASINGS FOR DISTRIBUTION FACILITIES <br />UNDER THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC TRANSPORTATION COMPANY <br />RAILWAY TRACKS AT THE PEPPER AVENUE BRIDGE <br />BACKGROUND <br />As Council is aware, the City is in the process of acquiring land for the new substation that will <br />serve the west side of town, which includes the County Medical Center. <br />STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM <br />Distribution facilities have to cross the railway tracks and Interstate -10 to serve the County <br />Medical Center and other electrical loads to the north of Interstate -10. The Southern Pacific <br />Transportation Company has agreed to permit construction under their railway tracks of two 42" <br />diameter steel casings which will help meet all our future electrical line crossing needs. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />None. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />Cost of five hundred fifty-five dollars ($555) to cover document preparation fees: $445 for the <br />license agreement and $110 for the first year's rental agreement.. These fees are included in the <br />total cost for the electrical substation, for which the Utility has budgeted in Fiscal Year 1994-95. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />Item No. /Soo, <br />
