HUTTON <br />Public Works Director lk <br />SUBJECT: DEANS BY WHICH TO CONSIDER NAMING OF A CITY PARK, PROPOSED <br />NOMINATION FORMAT AND LEGAL INI PPRETATION OF RESOLUTION <br />116A-93 <br />BA-MGROUND: <br />Recently a proposal to rename MuniciT al Park to Cesar Chavez Park was <br />presented to the City Council. The C ty Council in turn recommended <br />that the Parks and Recreation Commission first review the proposal and <br />provide a recommendation to Council. <br />X <br />The Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed the item at a special <br />meeting held at the Hutton Community Center on September 28th, whereby <br />they recommended; <br />"OTIP <br />1) A legal interpretation of Reso 116A-93 by the City Attorney <br />(response attached), <br />2) Recommend a nomination format (application form); whereby <br />under these circumstances an official request to name or rename a <br />park and could be used, outlining the propose and particular <br />reasons for the request by the applicant. (proposed application <br />form attached). <br />i <br />It w�s the City Attor�ieyls legal opinion, that the City Council has a <br />right to consider naming or renaming -any City Park under the existing <br />Reso. 116A-93 (absent any physical restriction on the legal vested <br />Deed, which none was found),,and that the attached nomination <br />application form be implemented for any and all future requests for <br />naming or renaming a City Park. <br />Concurrence: <br />ITEM <br />
