Clarke, Utility Directo L e_ <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST TO RECRUIT AND APPOINT TWO SUBSTATION OPERATIONS <br />SUPERVISORS <br />DATE: July 10, 2000 <br />BACKGROUND <br />There is one (1) vacancy in the Electric Utility Substation Division for the position of substation <br />Operations Supervisor due to a promotion. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS <br />A second position in this classification is part of a pending reorganization of this division in which <br />one existing supervisory position will be deleted and this second position created. Due to the <br />appropriate length of the recruitment process, the Utility is requesting authorization to begin to <br />recruit two or more candidates at this time. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />The reorganization will be presented to the Council before any appointments are made. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />Funding availability for this position is contained in the Enterprise Fund of FY's 1999/2000- <br />2000/2001 Electric budget as follows: Account No. 520-8000-8003-1010-0580 (Salary) and <br />Account No. 520-8000-8003-1100-0926 (Salary -related Benefits). <br />EXPECTED FILL DATE: September 25, 2000. <br />CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT <br />The position provides for the proper leadership of the inspection and maintenance of the electric <br />utility's substations. The proper conduct of the position's tasks result in a minimum amount of <br />major electrical outages experienced by customers. The position also provides considerable <br />services to the City's internal customers in the form of general and special electrical maintenance <br />and construction. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />None. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that Council approve the recruitment and appointment of two employees to the full-time <br />position of Substation Operations Supervisor in the Utility Department. <br />Page 1 of 1 Item #9 <br />
