CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For the City Council Meeting of June 20, 2000 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />APPROVAL: HENRY T. CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTOR, <br />SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR THE El RZ:GY;VEO 11CIEN(T LIGHTING' <br />MODERNIZATION OF CITY FACILITIES TO EXECUTIVE LIGHTING <br />SERVICES IN THE AMOUNT OF $114,696 <br />DATE: JUNE 12, 2000 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Utility Department regularly assists its large commercial customers with energy efficiency audits of their <br />facilities and operations. As a result of these audits, the Utility, or its consultants, make recommendations to the <br />customer on how to improve energy efficiency and lower their energy costs. The Utility Department recently <br />contracted with Energy Masters International to conduct an energy audit of City facilities. Energy Masters has <br />recommended the City upgrade lighting fixtures in its facilities. With the upgrades, the annual savings in energy <br />costs are estimated to be $19,087 per year. <br />DISCUSSION. <br />The Utility Department advertised for sealed bids on May 22, 2000 and May 20, 2000 for the Energy Efficient <br />Modernization of City Facilities Project. A Pre -Bid Meeting and Job -Walk was held on May 30, 2000, with two <br />prospective bidders in attendance. Bid opening was held on June 5, 2000, at 1 1:00am in the Corporate Yard <br />Conference Room. One Bid was received and evaluated from Executive Lighting Services in the amount of <br />$114,696. <br />ANALYSIS: <br />The bidder, Executive Lighting Services has contracted with other public agencies for similar work. Staff has <br />checked their qualifications with these agencies and received positive feedback as to the quality of work and <br />professionalism of the contractor. <br />ALTERNATIVES: <br />None. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The Utility Department has Public Benefit monies available in the 99/00 budget Account Number 520-8000-8038- <br />3890-0107-000. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />Modernization of the City's lighting fixtures and lamps will result in energy savings and provide a healthier work <br />environment for City employees. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends award of bid for the Energy Efficient Lighting Modernization of City Facilities to Executive <br />Lighting Services in the Amount of $114,696, and authorizes staff to execute the contract documents. <br />Report Prepared by: Rebecca Gallegos, Purchasing Assistant <br />Page I of I Item #10 <br />
