R-02-93 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF COLTON SUPPORTING <br />LOCATION OF A DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE <br />ACCOUNTING CENTER AT THE SITE OF <br />NORTON AIR FORCE BASE IN SAN <br />BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA <br />WHEREAS, Norton Air Force Base is in the process of closing as <br />of our nation's defense reduction, and is therefore being <br />sed for various reuse activities under the jurisdiction of the <br />nland Valley Development Agency, and; <br />WHEREAS, Norton AFB has housed for several decades, in <br />ddition to flying missions, a large variety of sizeable Air Force <br />upport units, including audit, Inspector General, safety, and <br />udio-visual functions, and; <br />WHEREAS, because of this background and many other similar <br />ublic and private operations in the general location, the San <br />ernardino area has an abundance of skilled workers who can respond <br />mmediately to the needs of such an Accounting Center, and; <br />WHEREAS, California State University San Bernardino has a <br />ighly acclaimed undergraduate and graduate program in accounting, <br />'ith a great many well-qualified graduates annually, and with other <br />our year and two year colleges and Universities also providing an <br />mple supply of accounting technicians at all levels, and; <br />WHEREAS, the area has experienced, and is continuing to <br />xperience, dramatic and debilitating job losses in a great many <br />ccupational sectors, as a consequence of both defense reductions <br />nd the general economic distress, and; <br />WHEREAS, other recent and planned job -site closures, both <br />ilitary and corporate, including George AFB, Kaiser Steel, <br />ockheed Aircraft, General Dynamics, and TRW, have similarly <br />01 <br />
