R-111-93
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF COLTON IN OPPOSITION
OF PROPOSITION 174
WHEREAS, the City of Colton joins Governor Pete Wilson in
opposing Proposition 174 because it could seriously
worsen the state's budget situation and jeopardize
funding for education; and,
WHEREAS, the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools
projects that the Colton Joint Unified School District
and San Bernardino Valley College could experience a
significant reduction of state funds if Proposition 174
passes, thereby decreasing the level of service avail-
able to students in the community; and,
WHEREAS, these reductions in state apportionments would ad-
versely affect educational programs and access,
particularly to the students in the Colton Joint Unified
School District and San Bernardino Valley College; and,
WHEREAS, the ballot language of Proposition 174 enables private
schools created under the law to have limited account-
ability to the taxpayers of California.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the
City of Colton hereby goes on record as opposing
Proposition 174.
RESOLVED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 26th day of October, 1993.
'ATTEST:
HELEN A.
