R-01-03 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON ADOPTING THE STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLE AND MISSION STATEMENT LANGUAGE FOR THE "LABOR—ADMINISTRATIVE COALITION" WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of California has announced that the state faces a "dramatic and painful' budget deficit of $34.8 billion for the remainder of the current (2002/03) and the next (2003/04) fiscal years; and WHEREAS, the Governor has called upon the legislature to immediately enact the budget reductions recently called for and promised that he would purpose additional budget cut recommendations and revenue enhancement in January 2003; and WHEREAS, the state has in the past raided local government revenue streams as a means to solve its own fiscal woes; and WHEREAS, to combat the state government from once again raiding local revenue streams, the City of Colton and other Inland Empire Cities, in concert with the League of California Cities have formulated a partnership with organized labor groups known as the Labor—Administrative Coalition; and WHEREAS, the Labor — Administrative Coalition has met and discussed the following Statement of Principle and Mission Statement Language and hereby requests that each member of the coalition formally adopted such language followed by the number of residents or members the member represents; and WHEREAS, the Statement of Principle and Mission Statement Language reads; Organized Labor and Local Governments agree to work together with other advocates to lobby California State Government to protect local government services and revenues, and jobs with fair wages and benefits. Together we recognize the importance of maintaining local revenue streams to preserve and create good paying jobs and promote economic growth
