R-01-03 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLTON ADOPTING THE <br />STATEMENT OF PRINCIPLE AND MISSION STATEMENT LANGUAGE FOR THE <br />"LABOR—ADMINISTRATIVE COALITION" <br />WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of California has announced that the state <br />faces a "dramatic and painful' budget deficit of $34.8 billion for the remainder of the current <br />(2002/03) and the next (2003/04) fiscal years; and <br />WHEREAS, the Governor has called upon the legislature to immediately enact the <br />budget reductions recently called for and promised that he would purpose additional budget <br />cut recommendations and revenue enhancement in January 2003; and <br />WHEREAS, the state has in the past raided local government revenue streams as a <br />means to solve its own fiscal woes; and <br />WHEREAS, to combat the state government from once again raiding local revenue <br />streams, the City of Colton and other Inland Empire Cities, in concert with the League of <br />California Cities have formulated a partnership with organized labor groups known as the <br />Labor—Administrative Coalition; and <br />WHEREAS, the Labor — Administrative Coalition has met and discussed the following <br />Statement of Principle and Mission Statement Language and hereby requests that each <br />member of the coalition formally adopted such language followed by the number of residents <br />or members the member represents; and <br />WHEREAS, the Statement of Principle and Mission Statement Language reads; <br />Organized Labor and Local Governments agree to work together with other advocates to <br />lobby California State Government to protect local government services and revenues, and <br />jobs with fair wages and benefits. Together we recognize the importance of maintaining local <br />revenue streams to preserve and create good paying jobs and promote economic growth <br />
