CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF MARCH 6, 2001
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL RS
APPROVAL: HENRY T. GARCIA, CITY MANAGER ~
FROM: AL HOLLIMAN, FINANCE DIRECTO
SUBJECT: AWARD A CONTRACT FOR THREE BLACK & WHITE POLICE SEDANS FOR THE
POLICE DEPARTMENT TO WONDRIES FLEET DIVISION IN THE AMOUNT OF
$74,858.70
DATE: FEBRUARY 26, 2001
BACKGROUND
The Police Department replaces some of its oldest vehicles on a yearly basis. These vehicles have in
excess of 90,000 miles. At a special meeting on February 13, 2001, the City Council appropriated funds to
purchase three replacement black & white police units in the FY 2000-2001 budget.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
The City of Colton can piggyback onto the Los Angeles County Bid #205455, under their cooperative
purchasing provision. This will save the City the cost of the formal bid process and allow us to take
advantage of the volume discount afforded to Los Angeles County.
ALTERNATIVES
Solicit sealed proposals for these vehicles; however, the cost may well be higher due to the smaller
quantity. If we solicit bids we may not make the 2001 order cut-off date.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The funds are budgeted in the Police Patrol automotive capital account #100-6070-6072-4910.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None
LEGAL REYIEW
y Attorney
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council piggyback on to the Los Angeles County Bid K#205455 and award a
contract to Wondries Fleet Group for the purchase of three police sedans in the total amount of
$74,858.70.
Report prepared by Mary J.
