1 RESOLUTION NO. 2429 <br /> 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br /> • CITY OF COLTON PROTESTING THE PROPOSAL <br /> 3 OF THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY <br /> TO DISCONTINUE THE PASSENGER TRAIN KNOWN <br /> 4 AS THE "CITY OF STA LOUIS," <br /> 5I <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton has been advised that <br /> 6 <br /> a hearing has been ordered by the Interstate Commerce Commission to con- <br /> 7 <br /> sider the proposal of the Union Pacific Railroad Company to discontinue their <br /> 8 <br /> passenger train known as the "City of St. Louis", and <br /> 9I <br /> WHEREAS, it is of paramont importance to all people in this area that <br /> 10 <br /> this service be continued as the discontinuance of this service would result in <br /> 11 <br /> this area with only one through first class train and would leave them without <br /> 12 <br /> any through service of any kind to the Kansas City -- St. Louis area, and <br /> 13 <br /> WHEREAS, the discontinuance of this train could result in reduction <br /> 14 <br /> of mail service for parcel post which could result in loss of income to local <br /> 15I16, merchants which is of great importance to the City of Colton, and <br /> 171 WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City Council that this could also mean <br /> loss of jobs for men in the Colton area who live and spend there salary locally, <br /> 18 <br /> 19 NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Colton does respect- <br /> 20 fully urge the Commission to give serious consideration to the effect the <br /> proposed change would have on the traveling public, the local merchants and <br /> 21 <br /> 22 the general public in this area. <br /> 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Woodrow Miller, Councilman be <br /> 24 and he is hereby authorized to represent the City of Colton at the hearing <br /> 25 ordered by the Interstate Commerce Commission to be held January 10, 1964 <br /> 26 in Los Angeles, California. <br /> 27 PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this',7th day of ?anuary, 1964. <br /> 28 cro614V4Art. <br /> ATTEST: \ <br /> 29 `/ A <br /> 30 _ I Aar' -� <br /> C er <br /> 31 <br /> 32 <br />
