1 RESOLUTION NO. 2429 2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE • CITY OF COLTON PROTESTING THE PROPOSAL 3 OF THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY TO DISCONTINUE THE PASSENGER TRAIN KNOWN 4 AS THE "CITY OF STA LOUIS," 5I WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton has been advised that 6 a hearing has been ordered by the Interstate Commerce Commission to con- 7 sider the proposal of the Union Pacific Railroad Company to discontinue their 8 passenger train known as the "City of St. Louis", and 9I WHEREAS, it is of paramont importance to all people in this area that 10 this service be continued as the discontinuance of this service would result in 11 this area with only one through first class train and would leave them without 12 any through service of any kind to the Kansas City -- St. Louis area, and 13 WHEREAS, the discontinuance of this train could result in reduction 14 of mail service for parcel post which could result in loss of income to local 15I16, merchants which is of great importance to the City of Colton, and 171 WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the City Council that this could also mean loss of jobs for men in the Colton area who live and spend there salary locally, 18 19 NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Colton does respect- 20 fully urge the Commission to give serious consideration to the effect the proposed change would have on the traveling public, the local merchants and 21 22 the general public in this area. 23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Woodrow Miller, Councilman be 24 and he is hereby authorized to represent the City of Colton at the hearing 25 ordered by the Interstate Commerce Commission to be held January 10, 1964 26 in Los Angeles, California. 27 PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED this',7th day of ?anuary, 1964. 28 cro614V4Art.
