CLARKE, UTILITIES DIRECTOR 'C� <br />SUBJECT: REJECTION OF BID FOR THE LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE AND <br />WEED ABATEMENT CONTRACT, WAIVE THE PUBLIC BIDDING <br />REQUIREMENTS, AND AUTHORIZE THE UTILITIES DIRECTOR TO <br />NEGOTIATE A CONTRACT <br />DATE: MAY 3, 2001 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Utilities Department has several properties located in the Cities of Colton and San <br />Bernardino. These properties require landscape maintenance and weed abatement on a <br />regular basis. The Utilities Department regularly receives requests from citizens to maintain or <br />clear the properties located near them. In addition, weed abatement notices are received from <br />both Cities' Fire Departments. In order to accomplish the required maintenance and clearing of <br />the parcels, several man-hours are required each day. These tasks do not allow sufficient time <br />for the work crews to accomplish their regular duties required by regulatory agencies. The <br />properties requiring maintenance and weed abatement are listed below: <br />Water Properties— <br />WATER PROPERTIES REQUIRING WEEKLY LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE: <br />(Work is weekly, but total monthly cost will be the bid price) <br />A. Domecq Reservoir Site (Well #9) <br />B. Mojave Booster Station Site <br />C. Watwood, Well 15 & Generator Site <br />D.
