CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF JUNE 5, 2001 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: AL HOLLIMAN <br />Finance Director <br />SUBJECT: Award of Bid to Motorola Communications and Electronics Inc., Western <br />Division for the Purchase of Radio Equipment and Accessories for the <br />Police Department in the Amount of $26,907.04 <br />DATE: May 21, 2001 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The State of California awarded The City of Colton Police Department a Citizens Options for <br />Public Safety (COPS) 2001 Grant. This grant was brought to the City Council for acceptance at the <br />meeting of December 19, 2000. When brought to the Council for acceptance the Police Department <br />listed several intended uses for the funds. This included the proposed option to spend some of the <br />funds on replacing old and broken handheld 800 MHz Motorola Radios. The purchase of these <br />radios will allow the Police Department to provide the citizens with better customer service in the <br />area of public safety. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />On May 10, 2001, Purchasing posted the Notice Inviting sealed bids for the purchase of Motorola <br />Radio Equipment and Accessories for the City of Colton Police Department. In addition, bid <br />packages were sent to five prospective bidders. The bid opening was held at 3:00 p.m., May 21, <br />2001, in the Purchasing office. One bid, from Motorola Communications and Electronics Inc., <br />Western Division, was received and evaluated by the purchasing division. Due to Motorola bidding <br />directly none of the distributors of Motorola bid on the purchase. <br />Staff is recommending award of bid to Motorola Communications and Electronics Inc., Western <br />Division in the amount of $26,907.04. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />r <br />iVISCAL IMPACT: <br />T- Ae Police Department has the funds available in the COPS 2001 Grant - Misc.
