CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF JUNE 5, 2001
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: IkL HOLLIMAN OW
Finance Director
SUBJECT: Approve a contract for annual swimming pool maintenance for the Parks
Recreation and Family Services Department, in the Amount of $19,200.
DATE: May 21, 2001
BACKGROUND:
The City's Parks Recreation and Family Services Department operates the public swimming pool at
the Community Center and budgets for annual maintenance of the pool. The maintenance requires a
contractor to perform the work five days a week year around. The State of California requires that
the contractor performing the maintenance possess a Certified Pool Operators certificate.
ANALYSIS/DIS CUSSION:
On May 10, 2001, Purchasing advertised for sealed bids for an annual swimming pool maintenance
contract. In addition, bid packages were sent to three prospective bidders. The bid opening was
held at 2:30 p.m., May 21, 2001, in the Purchasing office. Two bids were received and evaluated
by the purchasing division. Bids were evaluated on the basis of price, vendor reputation and
experience. The City's bid package states that the awarded contractor must have a valid Certified
Pool Operators Certificate at the time the contract documents are signed and the specified work is
to begin. Currently the low bidder is in the process of acquiring this certification and will have it
prior to signing the contract. The City will have the option of renewing this contract two
consecutive years for a period of one (1) year at a time.
Staff is recommending award of contract to the low bidder Southern California Pool Guys in the
annual amount of $19,200.00.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
This maintenance will ensure that the City is operating the pool with the proper amount of
chemicals and not emitting additional chemicals into the atmosphere.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Parks Rec. and Family Services Department has sufficient funds budgeted for the annual
maintenance. The funds are available in the aquatics div. account number 100-6200-6203-2350.
Item 07
