CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF JUNE 5, 2001
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
FROM: .-AL HOLLIMAN
FINANCE DIRECTOR
SUBJECT: AWARD A CONTRACT FOR ONE BLACK & WHITE POLICE SEDAN FOR THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT TO WONDRIES FLEET DIVISION IN THE AMOUNT OF $24,952.90
DATE: MAY 16, 2001
BACKGROUND
The Police Department replaces some of its oldest vehicles on a yearly basis. These vehicles have in
excess of 90,000 miles. Funds were budgeted in FY 2000-2001 for the purchase of computer equipment.
However, the Police Department received a grant that was used to purchase this computer equipment,
which resulted in an overall savings to their budget. This savings will be used to purchase this vehicle.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
Section 3.08.100 of the City's Purchasing Ordinance allows the City to enter into agreements with other
agencies for the purchase of supplies, services and equipment. In such instances, the procedures of that
agency shall satisfy all city requirements for the bid and award of those purchases. The City of Colton can
piggyback onto the Los Angeles County Bid #205455, under their cooperative purchasing provision. This
will save the City the cost of the formal bid process and allow us to take advantage of the volume discount
afforded to Los Angeles County.
ALTERNATIVES
Solicit sealed proposals for this vehicle; however, the cost may well be higher due to the smaller quantity. If
we solicit bids we may not make the 2001 order cut-off date.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The savings have been transferred from the Police Dept. Principal account number 100-6070-6080-2500 to
the Police Patrol automotive capital account #100-6070-6072-4910.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None
Attachments: None
Item #10
