CITY OF COLTON Item #23 AGENDA REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF JULY 17, 2001 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: Ronald C. Kenny, Director of Parks, Recreation and Family Services �� SUBJECT: Request to Hold Four Additional Summer Concerts in the Park and a Change in Dates for All Concerts. DATE: July 10, 2001 BACKGROUND: The Parks, Recreation and Family Services Department had scheduled two summer concerts in Fleming Park for this summer. Each date was a Saturday, July 21 and August 18. Councilmember Richard DeLaRosa has since offered to use a portion of his District's carryover CIP allocation from fiscal year 2000/01 to fund an additional four concerts during the summer season. He has requested that all concerts be held on Sunday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. rather than Saturday evenings to better accommodate the community and to provide the opportunity for the City to obtain the bands at a reduced fee. ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: Staff has contacted all potential performers and they would be available to perform on Sundays. The proposed concert schedule would be as follows: July 22 Latin Society August 12 Marachi, Lupe Soria July 29 Running On Funk August 19 To be announced August 5 Jazz Junkies August 26 Time Piece FISCAL IMPACT: The cost for the four additional concerts would be $3,450 and is budgeted in account No. 100-1000-1230-2301. The cost for additional Department staff would be approximately $850 for the four concerts and a budget transfer would be necessary from account 100-1000-1230-2301 to accounts 100-6200-6202-1040, Part-time Salaries, 100-6200-6202-1050, Community Center Overtime and 100-6200-6205-1050, Parks Division Overtime. It is also possible that donations could be received for the concerts. If this would occur, general fund revenue estimates would be increased versus actually transferring these funds from account 100-1000-1230-2301. RECOMMENDATION: Approval of four additional summer concerts with all concerts in the summer series to be held on Sunday evenings from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
