ITEM #14
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 7, 2006
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E.; P.W. DIRECTOR / CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: APPROVE A SECOND AMENDMENT TO THE ORIGINAL CONTACT
WITH KWANG COOK AND ASSOCIATES, INC., IN THE AMOUNT OF
$50,000.
DATE: MARCH 27, 2006
BACKGROUND:
The City of Colton entered into a contract with Kwang Cook & Associates for the first phase of the
City Hall Renovation Project on the 8t' of March 2004. The original contract was written 'not to
exceed' $25,000. Originally, the scope of work included providing the City of Colton with
architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans for the Finance Department portion of City
Hall.
Council approved an amendment to the original Agreement on September 21, 2005; the
amendment increased the total compensation noted in the Agreement 'not to exceed' $40,000.
This amendment provided the City of Colton with architectural, structural, mechanical, and
electrical plans for the Police Department section of City Hall.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Council action on March 7, 2006 identified funding for seven additional phases of the City Hall
Remodel capital improvement project. Six of these seven additional phases will require
architectural services. As funding is now available to complete the seven additional phases, six of
which will require architectural design, and Kwang Cook and Associates are intrinsically familiar
with the structural components of Colton's City Hall, it is prudent to increase the scope of work for
the existing architectural services contract for the City Hall Remodel Project; included in these
additional phases is the structural plans for the approved redesign of the east entrance. The
second amendment to the Agreement would increase the Agreement compensation by $50,000.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funding for this amendment is available in the City Hall Remodel Project accounts:
• 450-0619-6960-3890 Teller Area
• 450-0620-6960-3890
• 450-0621-6960-3890
• 450-0622-6960-3890
• 450-0623-6960-3890
• 450-0624-6960-3890
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Not Applicable.
7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb
PD Waiting Area
Accounting Area
East Entrance
City Manager
City Clerk.
