CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF JUNE 6, 2006
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., PW DIRECTOR / CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: APPROVE AMENDMENT TO RADIX FIRE PROTECTION, INC. FOR
THE CITY HALL REMODEL PROJECT PHASES, IN THE AMOUNT OF
$74,620.
DATE: MAY 30, 2006
BACKGROUND:
In the spring of 2005, staff requested and received proposals for the installation of an automatic fire
sprinkler system throughout City Hall. Staff requested proposals from three contractors and
received two responses; the informal bidding process was abided by as required by Section
3.08.050 (b) of the purchasing ordinance, 0-12-03. Staff was unable to move forward and request
the award of a corresponding agreement as all the phases for the City Hall Remodel Project were
not yet appropriated funding. Thus, the City awarded the lowest bidder, Radix Fire Construction,
Inc., an agreement for the installation of fire sprinklers for the City Hall Remodel. Phase I Project;
the total agreement was not to exceed $24,500.
DISC USSION/ANALYSIS:
As funding has now been appropriated to each phase of the City Hall Remodel Project staff
requests amending the existing agreement held by Radix Fire Protection, Inc. to include the
installation of an automatic fire sprinkler system in the remaining phases of the City Hall Remodel
Project. By amending the existing agreement the compensation amount will increase by $74,620
and total $99,120. The proposals received by the City in the spring of 2005 will still be upheld by
the contractor and are as follows:
1. Radix Fire Protection, Inc. $99,120.00
2. Constant Fire Protection, Inc. $187,521.00.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The funds for the amendment of this agreement are available in the following accounts:
450-0619-6960-3890, 450-620-6960-3890, 450-0621-6960-3890, 450-0623-6960-3890 and
450-0624-6960-3890.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
Not Applicable.
7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb
