MFFTINC nF AITr'ITCT 7 2(17 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., PW DIRECTOR / CITY ENGINEER <br />SUBJECT: APPROVE AMENDING THE BTA AGREEMENT TO EXTEND <br />THE TERM OF THE AGREEMENT THROUGH APRIL 1, 2012. <br />DATE: JULY 30, 2007 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On June 26, 2007, Council action awarded a construction agreement to SOL Construction for the Colton <br />Avenue Bike Lane Project. The Colton Avenue Bike Lane Project is a multi jurisdictional project between <br />the Cities of Colton and San Bernardino, located within the abandoned Southern Pacific Railroad right-of- <br />way adjacent to Colton Avenue. The approximate length of the proposed project is 2.25 miles starting from <br />Valley Boulevard in Colton, moving north along 9t" Street, then westward on "G" Street connecting to the <br />abandoned Union Pacific Railroad corridor on the west side of Colton Avenue, then extending northeasterly <br />to the City Knits and Inland Center Drive in the City of San Bernardino. The bikeway travels along the <br />Inland Center Drive over the I-215 interchange and continues northeasterly terminating at "G" Street in City <br />of San Bernardino. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />Various types of funding sources were secured to find the environmental, design and construction phases of <br />this project. One of the various funding sources awarded to the Project was from the Department of <br />Transportation's Bicycle Transportation Account (BTA), in the amount of $200,000. Council action on <br />January 18, 2005 accepted the awarded funds and authorized the City to enter into an agreement with the <br />Department of Transportation for expending these awarded finds. The term of this agreement requires all <br />final accounting of the actual project costs and a final invoice be submitted to the State by April 1, 2007. As <br />the project has not yet completed its construction phase, staff requested the Department of Transportation <br />extend the term of the agreement. The State agreed to provided the requested extension and has presented the <br />City with an amendment to the agreement, Exhibit `A.' The amendment will allow the City to provide a final <br />invoice for the project to the State by April 1, 2012. Staff requests authorization to execute the amendment <br />attached hereto as Exhibit `A.' <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />Action on this item will not result in any environmental impacts. <br />
