r <br />'SPO RATED ' <br />STAFF REPORT <br />ITEM NO. 05 <br />DATE: OCTOBER 5, 2010 _ <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY CO Cl C� f <br />FROM: ROD FOSTER, CITY MANAGER <br />PREPARED BY: BOB MILLER, POLICE CHIEF ( J <br />�.f <br />SUBJECT: APPROVAL ACCEPTANCE OF THE FY 2009 HOMELAND <br />SECURITY GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $16,311, AND ADOPT <br />BUDGET AMENDMENT <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />It is recommended that the City Council adopt Resolution R-68-10, authorizing the approval and <br />acceptance of the Homeland Security Grant in the amount of $16,311. <br />GOAL STATEMENT <br />To provide the Police Department with Night Vision Optics to be used to enhance the Police <br />Departments abilities as first responders to respond to emergencies with low and/or or available <br />lighting. <br />BACKGROUND <br />On August 31, 2010, the California Governor's Office of Homeland Security awarded the City of <br />Colton Police Department a grant in the amount of $16,311. This Grant money is to be used to <br />purchase equipment and supplies that would enhance the Police Department's preparedness to <br />prevent, protect, respond and recover from terrorist threats and attacks. The accompanying <br />Resolution is required to accept this Grant and to amend the budget in the amount of $16,311. <br />ISSUES/ANALYSIS <br />The Homeland Security Grant was awarded through a formula process whereby applicant cities <br />were allocated funds based upon population. Applicants submitted proposed equipment and <br />supply list, in furtherance of homeland security preparedness goals for review and approval. The <br />Police Department's equipment and supply list was approved by the Governor's Office of <br />Homeland Security and was selected to be funded. Funding for the purchases are by <br />reimbursement and do not require matching funds. Approved equipment and supplies to be <br />purchased are as follows: <br />Night Vision Optics <br />Helmet Mounts. <br />
