1-,
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting of April 6, 1993
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
1c
FROM: Ken Herron, Director of Parks, Recreation & Human Services
SUBJECT: 1993-94 Urban Forestry Grant Application Date: March 30, 1993
The Urban Forestry Project Management was transferred from Public
Works to the Department of Parks, Recreation and Human Services in
November 1992. Our current grant contract was extended to March
31, 1993 by the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. To this
date we have planted 240 trees and taken care of all the specific
tree requests. Currently the department is in the process of
applying for a new $20,000 Urban Forestry Grant, which is due at
the end of April 1993.
DISCUSSION
With this proposed grant, it will be the department's goal to plant
620 trees throughout various parkway spaces in Colton. This effort
will help reduce smog and urban heat build-up, while beautifying
our city. Mark Lewis, City Manager, needs to be named in the
resolution as the overseer of this project in order for the
application to be complete. The department budget for 1993-94
contains the funding necessary to provide the support for this
project.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the city council authorize Mark Lewis to be
named as overseer of the 1993-94 Urban Forestry Project so that our
application can be submitted.
Attachments:`/
Page t of Item No.
