CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For Council Meeting ofApril,20, 1943
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council/
FROM: JACK H. STRATTON, CHIEF OF POLIC -
SUBJECT: MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING FOR
SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER
BACKGROUND
Date: 4-15-93
The Colton Police Department and the Colton Joint Unified School
District have agreed to the assignment of a School Resource Officer
to the Colton High School. In the furtherance of this effect, both
parties will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding.
DISCUSSION
On February 4, 1992, a student was shot and killed while on the
Colton High School campus. Because of this tragic incident, the
Colton City Council, the Colton Police Department, and the Colton
Unified School District began discussion on the feasibility of
developing a School Resource Officer Program at the Colton High
School. The concept became a goal of the City Council and the police
department for the 1993-93 fiscal year.
Both the school district and the police department are ready to
proceed with the program and it was agreed that the establishment of
a Memorandum of Understanding would be to the benefit of both
parties. Said Memorandum of Understanding was drafted by the school
district and forwarded to the City for further action.
FISCAL IMPACT
None.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council adopts the Memorandum of
Understanding as presented by the Colton Unified School District.
Report prepared by Randy Heusn/rbe , Police Lieutenant
Concurrence: t v
Mark E.
