CITY OF COLTON
,perrorgT
AGENDA REPORT " t
• t9
For Council Meeting of April 20, 1993
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM:
rty
4 1
SUBJECT: / Resolution Opposing
BACKGROUND:
DATE: April 15, 1993
the Colton Sanitary Landfill Solid Waste Facility Permit Revision
In March of this year, the City of Colton received the initial study from County of San Bernardino, Solid Waste
Management Department, regarding the Colton Sanitary Landfill Solid Waste Facility Permit Revision. This
includes the expansion of the active landfill into the previously inactive 21 acre portion of the landfill that runs
along the southern portion of the Santa Ana River. In addition to the expansion along the river, the permit
revision also increases the permitted rate of disposal at the site.
DISCUSSION:
The County of San Bernardino Solid Waste Management Department has proposed a Negative Declaration for
this project, when in fact the results of the permit revision may have many environmental impacts which
adversely affect the quality of life for the residents of Colton. These negative impacts are included in the
attached Resolution and include the following: increased traffic and pollution; the creation of additional dust
and objectionable odors; and the danger of contaminating the ground water table and the Santa Ana River.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council formally oppose the Colton Sanitary Landfill Solid Waste Facility
Permit Revision and adopt of the attached resolution.
Report prepared by Daryl Parrish, Acting Assistant to the City Manager
Attachments: 2
c: \wpw in\.A62093.age
Ro-!3
