JOHNSON 4 <br />Personnel Director <br />SUBJECT: PROPOSED REVISION TO RESOLUTION NO. 2240 - NOTIFICATION OF <br />EXAMINATION RESULTS <br />BACKGROUND <br />Section 5 of Personnel Rule VII, "NOTIFICATION OF EXAMINATION RESULTS", states: <br />"Each candidate in an examination shall be given written notice of the results thereof, and if <br />successful, of his final earned score and rank on the employment list." <br />Section 5 of Rule IX states that the Personnel Officer (City Manager) may appoint anyone who is on -a certified <br />employment list to a vacant position. Providing candidates for positions, with their rank on the employment <br />list frequently creates unrealistic expectations by those who score at or near the top of the list. Since anyone <br />on the list may be appointed and there is no requirement that any or all candidates on the list be interviewed <br />prior to a selection being made, I recommend that Resolution No. 2240 be amended to delete the requirement <br />that candidates be told their rank on the employment list. <br />The employee associations have been provided with a copy of this proposal with an offer to meet and confer <br />over its impacts. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution amending Section 5 of Personnel Rule <br />VII found in Resolution No. 2240. <br />Concur <br />ity Manager <br />B8:REVISEXM.803 <br />
