re? <br />CITY OF COLTON `�oor�oret�� <br />18897 <br />AGENDA REPORT ° 1 f OIL <br />For Council Meeting of JULY 6, 1993 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL DATE: June 29, 1993 <br />FROM: JOHN INUTTON <br />PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: PROPOSED HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTRACTBETWEEN COUNTY/CITY FOR <br />PROVIDING ONGOING -SERVICE FOR DISPOSAL <br />BACKGROUND: <br />over the previous 4 to 5 years the City of Colton has provided a Household <br />Hazardous Waste Collection Roundup Day in joint participation with the County <br />of San Bernardino. (The responsible collection agency being San Bernardino <br />County) <br />The County Department of Health Services provided this program to the City <br />which was funded through and as a part of the total cost of the landfill <br />tipping fee. The City of Colton paid as part of its disposal costs to the <br />County. <br />Recently the County of San Bernardino amended their previous tipping fee <br />charges to exclude this service fee out of the overall cost of disposal to <br />allow jurisdictions the opportunity to choose whether or not they wish to <br />participate with the county or create and be responsible for their own <br />program, <br />DISCUSSION• <br />The City of Colton does not currently have the required certified staff <br />necessary to collect and dispose of Hazardous Wastes nor does the city ha%` <br />agreements with any processors that could receive and dispose of or recycle <br />these types of materials. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The cost for. continuing to have the County collect and handle the cities <br />Household Hazardous' Wastes as part of their program would be offset by the <br />recent reduction in the tipping fee which was paid through and as part of the <br />Sanitation Departments disposal costs to the County. <br />The difference being only in the method of payment and the appropriate county <br />department being directly involved by agreement. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br />The cost for continuing the Household Hazardous Waste collection program by <br />
