HUTTON, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR 1Xk/d <br />SUBJECT: CONSIDER COST SHARING OF PEDESTRIAN SIGNAL AT MT <br />VERNON AND JOHNSTON <br />DATE June 25, 1997 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The intersection=bf Mt Vernon and Johnston is a "T intersection with Johnston <br />intersecting Mt Vernon at a right angle. This intersection is located on the corporate <br />boundary of the city. The City of San Bernardino has been requested to install a <br />pedesrtian accuated signal to control traffic for the student crosswalk located on the <br />south leg of this intersection. The City of San Bernardino has requested that the City of <br />Colton and San Berardino Valley Community College share the approximate <br />$40,000.00 cost of this installation. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />This crosswalk is utilized by the students of San Bernardino Valley Community College. <br />This issue was discussed by the Traffic Safety Committee at the meeting of June 4, <br />1997 ( see attached minutes ). Even though this intersection did not conform to the <br />warrants for the installation of this type of a traffic control device, the committee felt that <br />if the City of San Bernardino has agreed to the installation sharing the cost would be <br />app.-Pte%The committee felt that this was a decision for the council <br />1' <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The proposed method of sharing the cost is one third of the estimated $40;00.00 or <br />$13,333.33. <br />Item No. 12 <br />
