AGENDA REPORT
CITY OF COLTON
For City Council Meeting of
July 15, 1997
July 9, 1997
TO: MAYOR GAYTAN, CITY COUNCIL AND CITY MANAGER
FROM: Julie Hayward Biggs, City Att
SUBJECT: Public Safety Special Tax
The Council has discussed at various times putting a measure on the November
1997 ballot that would establish a public safety tax to fund salary increases for public safety
personnel. Under the provisions of Proposition 218, such a measure requires the approval of
213 of those voting in an election for that purpose. If the Council wishes to pursue placing such
an issue on the November 1997 ballot, direction should be given to staff to prepare such a ballot
measure for action of the City Council at its August 5, 1997 meeting. In order to qualify the
measure for the November election, the Council must act on this matter at its first meeting in
August.
Concurrence:
-' -4, W
Gracie F' rnan ez Harmon, Acting City Manager
Item No. 25
