CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT For Council Meeting of December 1, 1998 TO: Honorable Mayor and Councik/ FROM: Carolina P. Barrera, City Clerk & SUBJECT: CERTIFICATION OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD NOVEMBER 3, 1998 , IN THE CITY OF COLTON DATE: November 23, 1998 BACKGROUND: At the June 16, 1998 Council Meeting, the City Council adopted Resolution No. R-51-98, Calling and Giving Notice of the General Municipal Election to be held in the City of Colton, for the Election of certain officers of the City. At the August 6, 1998 Council Meeting , the City Council adopted Resolution No. R-77-98, Calling and Giving Notice of the Special Municipal Election to be held in the City of Colton, with respect to the Measure on the Recall of Councilmember James Grimsby. DISCUSSION: The City Council by adoption of Resolution No. R-51-98 and Resolution No. R-78-98 authorized the county election department of the County of San Bernardino to canvass the returns of the General Municipal Election and the Special Municipal Recall Election. The canvass was completed on November 30, 1998. The Registrar of Voters has 28 days from the date of the election to canvass and certify the election to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Because this was such a large election the Registrar took the complete time allowed under the law. Certification of the elections will be available on November 30, 1998 and will be provided to Council immediately preceding the Council Meeting of December 1, 1998, along with a completed Resolution. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends adoption of the attached Resolution, reciting the facts and declaring the results of the November 3, 1998, General Municipal Election and the Special Municipal Election.
