CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of December 1, 1998 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and Councik/ <br />FROM: Carolina P. Barrera, City Clerk & <br />SUBJECT: CERTIFICATION OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD <br />NOVEMBER 3, 1998 , IN THE CITY OF COLTON <br />DATE: November 23, 1998 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />At the June 16, 1998 Council Meeting, the City Council adopted Resolution No. R-51-98, Calling <br />and Giving Notice of the General Municipal Election to be held in the City of Colton, for the <br />Election of certain officers of the City. At the August 6, 1998 Council Meeting , the City Council <br />adopted Resolution No. R-77-98, Calling and Giving Notice of the Special Municipal Election to be <br />held in the City of Colton, with respect to the Measure on the Recall of Councilmember James <br />Grimsby. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />The City Council by adoption of Resolution No. R-51-98 and Resolution No. R-78-98 authorized <br />the county election department of the County of San Bernardino to canvass the returns of the <br />General Municipal Election and the Special Municipal Recall Election. The canvass was completed <br />on November 30, 1998. <br />The Registrar of Voters has 28 days from the date of the election to canvass and certify the election <br />to the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Because this was such a large election the <br />Registrar took the complete time allowed under the law. Certification of the elections will be <br />available on November 30, 1998 and will be provided to Council immediately preceding the <br />Council Meeting of December 1, 1998, along with a completed Resolution. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends adoption of the attached Resolution, reciting the facts and declaring the results of <br />the November 3, 1998, General Municipal Election and the Special Municipal Election. <br />Attachment: Resolution No. R-107-98 <br />Item No. 1 <br />
