Parrish, Assistant City Manager TF:1 <br />SUBJECT: Renewal of Joint Use Agreement with the Colton Joint Unified <br />School District I Rogers Elementary School Softball Fields <br />DATE: June 9,1998 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Carl Rimbaugh Girls Softball League conducts a softball program at Paul J. Rogers <br />Elementary School on evenings and on weekends. On August 3, 1993 the City of <br />Colton entered into a five-year Joint Use Agreement with the Colton Joint Unified <br />School District. The Colton Joint Unified School District approved the existing <br />agreement on October 8, 1993. The existing agreement expires this year and must be <br />renewed in order for the Cad Rimbaugh Girls Softball League to confinue using the <br />athletic fields at Paul J. Rogers Elementary School. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The proposed joint use agreement is identical to the agreement approved in 1993 with <br />the following amendment. "The existing east field softball diamond shall be eliminated <br />effective after the 1998 season, and the proposed west field shall be used by the City <br />(actually by the Cad Rimbaugh Girls Softball League) as an athletic field." The east <br />field is to be eliminated because the School District has installed (and plans to install <br />additional) temporary classrooms that encroach on the existing softball diamond. <br />Construction of new west field, which will include a new backstop, fences, and a dugout <br />area, will be funded by the Cad Rimbaugh Girls Softball League. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />No fiscal impact as a direct result of amending this Joint Use Agreement. There are <br />currently and historically have been costs associated with supporting the Cad <br />Rimbaugh Softball League (and other sports leagues operating in the community) <br />however, those costs will not increase (or decrease) as a result of renewing the <br />attached agreement. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends approval of the renewal of the Joint Use Agreement with the Colton <br />Joint Unified School District for the Rogers Elementary School athletic fields <br />Attachments (2) <br />It= # 19 <br />
