CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF MARCH 16,1999
TO: Honorable Mayor & City Council
APPROVAL: Henry Garcia, City Manage>
FROM: Dennis Morris, Human Resource Director ,
SUBJECT: Approve Increase Of Home Office And Car Allowance Expense For The
City Council
DATE: March 8,1999
BACKGROUND: Survey data has shown increased travel and demands on City Council members.
There is a need for reevaluating the car allowance and home office expense amounts.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: There has been a substantial increase in travel by all City Council
members over the last year due to:
• Meetings with City Commissioners
• The addition of approximately 10-12 City Council workshops per year
• An increase in the number of town hall meetings
• Bi -weekly meetings with the City Manager
In total, these additional meetings amount to roughly an additional 20-30 meetings over the course
of the year. Based on the additional expense for travel by Council members more than justifies an
increase of $100 per month and is in line with survey data from other cities.
The home office expense amount also has not been increased in quite some time. Because of the
increased demands on the City Council and a more proactive approach by the City to serve the
needs of the citizens through more town hall meetings, more community involvement, more use of
their `B" mail at home, etc., there is also justification in increasing the home office expense
amount.
Item # I I
Agd031699 CC Car -Home allow
