CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 4, 2000
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR PRO TEM AND C UNCIL MEMBERS
APPROVAL: HENRY T. GARCIA, CITY MANAGE D
FROM: AL HOLLIMAN, FINANCE DIRECTORUw
SUBJECT: AWARD A CONTRACT FOR FOUR BLAZERS FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO
ROTOLO CHEVROLET FLEET DIVISION IN THE AMOUNT OF $89,728.
DATE: MARCH 27, 2000
AW&CtYQNJPU;
The Police Department has two compact pick-up trucks and one converted black & white police car that
have excessive mileage and another detective vehicle that has been in an accident and is not worth the
cost to repair it. These are unmarked vehicles that will be replaced by asset seizure funds.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS
Recently San Bernardino County solicited bids and awarded a contract to Rotolo Chevrolet Fleet
Division for 2 -wheel drive Blazers. While the vehicles being replaced consist of two compact pick-up
trucks and two passenger cars, replacement with the Blazers results in the optimum cost/benefit
scenario for the City. The City of Colton can tag on to the San Bernardino County Proposal #K30 and
save the cost of the formal bid process as well as receiving the County's quantity discount.
ALTERNATIVES
Solicit sealed proposals for these vehicles, however, the cost may well be higher due to the smaller
quantity. The order cut-off for year 2000 vehicles is April 6, 2000. If we solicit bids we will have to wait
for the 2001 vehicles.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The funds are available from asset seizure and will be transferred to account #261-6070-6083-4910.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council tag on to the San Bernardino County Proposal #K30 and award a
contract to Rotolo Chevrolet Fleet Division for four, 2 -wheel drive Blazers for the Police Department in
the amount of $89,728. Staff also recommends the City Council authorize the appropriation and
transfer of funds from the asset seizure account to purchase these vehicles.
Report prepared by Mary J.
