CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF April 18, 2000 TO: Honorable Mayor & City Council APPROVAL: Henry Garcia, City Manager FROM: Dennis Morris, Human Resource Director�_ SUBJECT: Approve And Adopt A Consolidated Part -Time Salary Resolution, Including Increases For Certain Positions And Creation Of Two (2) New Part -Time Positions. DATE: April 10, 2000 BACKGROUND: Over the last several years there have been a number of compensation adjustments approved by the City Council for part-time employees. There is also a need to increase certain part-time position's compensation and to create two (2) new part-time positions. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The attached salary resolution consolidates all of the salary changes into one (1) comprehensive part-time salary resolution, with all salary ranges that are currently in effect as of April 4, 2000. In addition, five current positions are being consolidated into two (2) positions with step ranges including an allowance for step increases as appropriate (see List). Three additional positions will have "steps" included to allow for step increases as appropriate; these are Lifeguard, Recreation Specialist and Senior Recreation Leader. These changes are based on; survey data from surrounding cities, the need to attract qualified candidates for part-time positions and to retain our present part-time employees. Lastly, there is a need to create two (2) new part-time positions in the City, a Student Worker Trainee and Management Intern, which will assist departments during cyclicalwork loads. These positions will be high school students (Student Worker Trainee) or upper level college students (Management Intern), that will provide general office support for City departments when needed. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The maximum financial impact of the consolidated part-time salary resolution through July 1, 2000 is approximately $7,220. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached part-time salary resolution consolidating/updating the salary ranges effective April 18, 2000.
