CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF March 21, 2000
TO: Honorable City Council
APPROVAL: Henry Garcia, City Manager
FROM: Ron Kenny, Interim Director Recreation & Parks
SUBJECT: Request Recruitment and Ratification of Employee Appointments to the
Full- time Positions of Maintenance Worker I in the Parks Division of the
Recreation & Parks Department
DATE: March 13, 2000
BACKGROUND:
There is a need for four (4) Maintenance Worker I positions in the Parks Division replacing the four
contract Landscape Lighting Maintenance District employees within the Recreation & Parks
Department. Attached is the job description of the classification; the salary range is $1887 — 2294
per month.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
In July 1999, the Parks Division and Landscape Lighting Maintenance Districts were transferred to
the Neighborhood Services Department. At that time, it was decided that the four contract
positions in the LLMD areas would be considered for full-time status at mid -year budget review.
On February 22, 2000, during the mid -year review the need for these four full-time positions was
discussed. It is now necessary to begin the recruitment so that these positions may be filled.
Recruitment for said positions will be conducted and an eligibility list will be established upon
Council approval. The candidates chosen will meet the education and experience requirements as
specified in the job description.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funding availability for these positions in the fiscal year 1999/2000 budget is as follows: Account
No. 702-6200-6210-1010 (salary) and Account No. 702-6200-6210-1100 (salary related benefits).
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT:
These positions are key to ensure that City of Colton and Landscape Lighting Maintenance District
Areas are properly maintained and to provide the continued services that the community has come
to expect. By providing preventative maintenance regularly, all areas in the City will be more
aesthetically pleasing to citizens and visitors alike.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that City Council approve the recruitment, and ratification of the employee
appointments to the full-time positions of Maintenance Worker I as recommended by the Interim
Recreation and Parks Director.
Attachment: Job Description
Item #10
Recruitment Agenda LLMD Areas
