CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For City Council Meeting of April 6, 1999
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
APPROVAL Henry Garcia, City Manager /J
FROM: John C. Hutton, Public Works DirectorA
SUBJECT: Parking Restrictions during street sweeping operations on all city streets
located between San Bernardino Avenue and the northerly city limits and
between Eucalyptus Avenue and the westerly city limits.
DATE: February 29,2000
We have received a request from a resident to restrict parking during the time of street sweeping operations.
The purpose of this request is to eliminate vehicles from blocking the path of the street sweeper. If a vehicle
is parked on the street the sweeper travels around that area leaving a dirty area. The resident complains that
due to her age she is unable to clean this area after the vehicle has moved.
This request has been reviewed by the Traffic Safety Committee. The committee agrees that a program
allowing complete access for the street sweeper is desirable. This program is favorable to the Street
Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department, The Committee recommended, that prior to
adopting a citywide street -sweeping program, that a local area with minimal access points is posted in order
to determine the impacts to and the response of the community. This will limit the financial impact by
limiting the number of signs required to post notice of this parking restriction. The committee also suggested
that the affected residents be noticed via the public access channel and in the utility billing statement
mailings.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
A sign will be posted at each entrances into this area for a total of eight signs at a cost of $75.00 per sign for
a total cost of $600.00. This money will be expended from the street division account # 100-6150-6160-
2301.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Council adopt the attached resolution authorizing the posting of no parking during
the hours of operation of street sweeping equipment.
Attachments: Resolution
Item #16
