Clarke, Utility Director <br />SUBJECT: Proposed Travel Cost Over $1,000 Per Person <br />DATE: April 24, 2000 <br />BACKGROUND <br />Pursuant to Resolution No. R-26-97 "... Relating to City Employee Travel", a request is being submitted <br />for travel and expenses which will be in excess of $1,000 per traveler. Attendance is in the interest of the <br />City and the travel is for city -related business or educational purposes. <br />DISCUSSION / ANALYSIS <br />The exact purpose of the travel is as follows: <br />For the Engineering GIS Technician to travel to San Diego, CA, June 26-30, 2000, to attend the 20'" <br />Annual ESRI User Conference. Attendees are able to keep abreast of the latest developments in GIS. <br />The newest vendors' products, i.e. software, are made available. Also, networking with peer group allows <br />for access to good personnel prospects as well as access to data of which they have been made aware <br />but that we may have not heard of yet. In addition, this employee will be taking training to improve his <br />skills in specialized software we already have. <br />BREAKDOWN OF EXPENSES ARE AS FOLLOWS: <br />Registration <br />Hotel <br />Per Diem <br />Airfare <br />$148.20 x 6 Days <br />$40.00 x 6 Days <br />Ground Transportation <br />TOTAL <br />$1,490.00 <br />889.20 <br />240.00 <br />150.00 <br />$2,769.20 <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Funds are appropriated in Account No. 520-8000-8027-3000-000 in the 1999-OOFY budget. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />None. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that City Council approve the proposed travel cost for the Engineering GIS Technician. <br />Attachment: Conference information <br />APPROVED — DISAPPROVED _ item #12 <br />
