Item #9
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 21, 2001
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
FROM: DILU DE ALWIS, ACTING FINANCE DIRECTOR
SUBJECT: AWARD A CONTRACT FOR TWO UNMARKED POLICE SEDANS FOR
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO WONDRIES FLEET DIVISION IN THE
AMOUNT OF $48,400.80
DATE: AUGUST 8, 2001
BACKGROUND
The Police Department replaces its oldest vehicles on a yearly basis. These vehicles have in excess of 90,000
miles. The new vehicles will replace a 1983 Ford Bronco that was a State asset seizure and a 1992 Toyota
Camry that was a Federal asset seizure. Funds were budgeted in FY 2001-2002 for the purchase of one
unmarked police sedan and the other sedan will be purchased with asset seizure funds.
DISCUSSION/ ANALYSIS
Section 3.08.100 of the City's Purchasing Ordinance allows the City to enter into agreements with other
agencies for the purchase of supplies, services and equipment. In such instances, the procedures of that
agency shall satisfy all city requirements for the bid and award of those purchases. The City of Colton can
piggyback onto the Los Angeles County Bid #205455, under their cooperative purchasing provision. This will
save the City the cost of the formal bid process and allow us to take advantage of the volume discount afforded
to Los Angeles County.
ALTERNATIVES
Solicit sealed proposals for these vehicles. However, the cost may well be higher due to the smaller quantity
and by piggybacking onto Los Angeles County's bid we can still take advantage of the 2001 pricing.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Funds are budgeted for one vehicle in the Police Detective automotive capital account 100-6070-6073-4910,
and for the other vehicle in the Federal Asset Seizure automotive capital account 261-6070-6083-4910.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None
