CLARKE, UTILITIES DIRECTOR' V_'G' <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENT TO <br />ONE PART-TIME POSITION OF CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE 1/II IN THE <br />UTILITIES DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: AUGUST 13, 2001 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In the FY01-02 Utilities Budget - Customer Service, there is one (1) part-time Customer Service <br />Representative 1/II position. Currently one vacancy exists. The FY01-02 salary range is $11.42/hr. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The Customer Service Division is responsible for the receiving of all utility bill payments, as well as <br />miscellaneous monies paid to the City. City Council authorized the part-time position in order to provide <br />Customer Service on Fridays, in addition to providing sufficient coverage when full-time Customer Service <br />employees are on leave. The candidate chosen will meet the education, experience and certification <br />requirements as specified in the job description. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Funding for the Customer Service position is budgeted In the Electric Utility's FY01-02 Budget Account No. <br />520-8000-8007-1040 (salary). The part-time position receives prorated benefits per the MOU, and is funded in <br />Account No. 520-8000-8007-1100 (benefits). <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />EXPECTED FILL DATE: <br />September 10, 2001 <br />CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT: <br />The Customer Service Division interacts directly with the City's customers and are responsible for the <br />receiving of payment on utility bills and other miscellaneous payments, customer complaints, processing utility <br />services turn on and turn off. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council ratify the employee appointment to fill the vacant part-time Customer <br />Service Representative 1/II position in the Utilities Department through the recruitment process. <br />Report Prepared By: Lorraine June <br />cc customerm <br />REVIEW TEAM ONLY <br />City Attorney: (ape.,. 4Zu( x Z;7_ Finance Director: UPJ City <br />OTHER: <br />
