L <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENT TO <br />THE FULL-TIME POSITION OF MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN FOR THE <br />SUBSTATION DIVISION OF COLTON PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />DATE: August 15, 2001 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Maintenance Electrician is an approved budgeted position that is currently vacant. The Water and Wastewater <br />Divisions have been steadily expanding their facilities. The increased demand by Water, Wastewater and other <br />Departments has placed heavy workloads on present personnel, requiring the Maintenance Electrician position to be <br />filled. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The department has experienced continuing difficulty in maintaining the requests for service from all departments. <br />The demand for service is continuous; there is a need to fill the position to maintain steady and reliable service. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: The existing vacated position is budgeted in FY 2001/02 in the Electric Utility Substation budget in <br />Account Number 520-8000-80031010-0580-000 (Salaries) and 520-8000-8003-1100 (Benefits). <br />EXPECTED FILE DATE: October 01, 2001 <br />CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT: The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting <br />electrical systems in City facilities including water wells and wastewater. Filling this position will provide reliable <br />service to the customers in Colton. <br />ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT: None. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve the recruitment and ratification of the employee appointment to the <br />full-time position. <br />Report prepared by: Daniel R.
