CLARKE, UTILITIES DIRECTOR, 0 <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT AND RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE <br />APPOINTMENT TO FOUR FULL-TIME POSITIONS OF MAINTENANCE <br />WORKERS 1/11 IN THE UTILITIES DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: AUGUST 13, 2001 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />In the FY01-02 Utilities Budget - Water Utility, there are five (5) Maintenance Worker 1/11 <br />positions; and in Stormwater there is one (1) Maintenance Worker I/11. Currently one vacancy <br />exists in Stormwater, and three vacancies exist in Water. The FY01-02 salary range is $2,091 <br />to $2,543 per month. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The Utilities Department has received several requests for lateral transfers from other <br />Department's Maintenance Worker 1/11's. Staff is asking the Colton Utility Authority's <br />authorization to fill the vacant Maintenance Worker 1/11 positions in the Utilities Department <br />either through lateral transfers or the recruitment process. The candidates chosen will meet the <br />education, experience and certification requirements as specified in the job description. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Funding for the Water and Stormwater positions is contained in the following budgets: FY01-02 <br />Water Utility's Budget Account No. 521-8100-8101-1010 (salary) and Account No. 521-8100- <br />8101-1100 (salary related benefits); FY01-02 Stormwater's Budget Account No. 722-8200- <br />8215-1010 (salaries) and Account No. 722-8200-8215-1100 (salaries and related benefits). <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />Water: <br />The positions are required to maintain the delivery and safety of the public's drinking water. <br />Stormwater: <br />Stormwater pollution prevention is a part of the Federal Clean Water Act, which is intended to <br />improve the Nation's waterways. <br />Compliance with the Water and Stormwater regulations is mandated by the Federal <br />Government, with the State's Regional Water Quality Control Board and Department of Health <br />Services enforcing those regulations. <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
