Item #1 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 20, 2002 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief <br />SUBJECT: Public Hearing to adopt a Report and Statement of Expenses <br />for the City's Weed Abatement Program and to consider <br />imposing a lien upon property for payment thereof. <br />DATE: <br />BACKGROUND: <br />12, 2002 <br />During the Council Meeting of March 5, 2002, the City Council approved Resolution Number R- <br />31-02 declaring weeds, rubbish, and refuse a Public Nuisance and subject to abatement in <br />accordance with the City's adopted standards. <br />Additionally, the Resolution authorized the Fire Chief to approve a contractor to perform the <br />abatement, to charge an administrative fee, and to place all contractor fees plus administrative <br />fee on the County Tax Rolls for collection. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />At this time, abatement has been completed and staff has prepared a written Report of Costs <br />on those completed parcels for which payment has not been received prior to August 20, <br />2002. Also at this time, a Public Hearing is required to consider the Statement of Expenses <br />and to hear any objections from property owners liable to be assessed for this abatement. The <br />report may be modified if necessary. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />Approximately 165 parcels were completed, resulting in the assessment of approximately <br />$12,375.00 in administrative fees in addition to the contractor's charges. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends the City Council confirm the Statement of Expenses and approve the <br />attached Resolution. <br />Report Prepared By: Alan J.
